How to play it

  • Bar 1 is an introduction: a bass C on the fifth string, then the pickup C E F. The G that follows in bar 2 is a whole note; let it ring all four beats.
  • The next pickups, in bars 3 and 5, start on beat two after a G on beat one, so the long note and the next “oh when the” share a bar.
  • Bar 10, “in that number”, has the song's one F chord; the F note is the first fret of the first string.
