How to play it

  • Bar 1 is the whole idea: E F♯ G♯ A B G♯ B, climbing up the fourth and third strings to the open B and back. Play it slowly first, then speed up a little on each repeat.
  • The G♯ is the first fret of the third string and the F♯ the fourth fret of the fourth string. Use your first and fourth fingers.
  • Bars 9 to 12 are the same phrase a fifth higher, starting on the open B: B C♯ D♯ E F♯ D♯ F♯, with the D♯ on the fourth fret of the second string.

About the song

From Grieg's music for Ibsen's play Peer Gynt, first performed in 1876. The theme repeats faster and louder each time; here it is written out four times at one speed.
