About

We just wanted to write down a few guitar notes.

So we built our own app for it. guitarnotation is made by C. Kerger in San Francisco.

Why we built it

After our guitar practice lessons, we wanted a simple way to write down what we'd played: a few notes in tab and notation, nothing fancy.

The programs that could do it cost a lot up front or wanted a subscription every year. We got tired of paying that much money simply to annotate a few guitar notes for our own practice, so we created our own solution.

What we made

guitarnotation is the app we wanted. Type the fret numbers and the notation writes itself, with tab, standard notation and a fretboard side by side. Play it back, slow it down without changing the pitch, and loop the bar that keeps tripping you up. It also opens the Guitar Pro, MusicXML and MIDI files you already have.

It costs $25, once. There's no subscription and no account, and everything stays on your computer. See how it compares with other guitar notation software.

It runs on all your computers

guitarnotation runs on Linux, Windows and macOS, and one licence covers you on all of your own computers, whichever of them you use. It needs any 64-bit computer with about 250 MB of free memory; the system requirements have the details.
